During a townhall meeting with stakeholders of Niger Delta to ascertain
the causes of militancy in the region, the delegation of Urhobo
traditional rulers staged a walkout while Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo
was

On why he incident took place, an eyewitness narrated:
“Isoko and Urhobo traditional rulers had walked out on the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, today at the PTI Conference Centre, Warri.
“On arrival to Delta State today, Prof. Osinbajo had gone to the palace of the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, HRM Oboro-Gbaraun II, at Oporoza in Warri South West Local Government of the State.
he Isoko and Urhobo nations accrued to the fact that instead of visiting their palaces like he did other monarchs from other ethnic nationalities in the State, he chose to summon them to Warri around 5pm today.
“Recall that the Vice President is on a one-day fact-finding visit to Delta State in respect of the militancy, youth unrest and underdevelopment that is prevalent in the region.
“The Pere of Gbaramatu is a monarch of Ijaw extract and while at his palace, the Vice President had assured the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom that the Maritime University in Okerenkoko earlier suspended by Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi will soon commence academic activities.
“He had also visited HRM. Ogiame Ikenwoli, the Olu of Warri at his palace. The Olu of Warri is the head of the Itsekiri people.
“It took the intervention of the State governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, to calm the nerves of the Isoko monarchs and return to the venue they had earlier walked away from.”
