Are Drake, Kanye West, and Justin Bieber Ditching the Grammys This Year?
With the most anticipated night in music, the Grammys, just weeks away, everyone is wondering who will be going with whom, what people will be wearing, and who will make the biggest headline of the night.
Well, reports are surfacing that Justin Bieber, Drake, and Kanye West won’t be attending the award show, so we can check those guys off any list.
The three musicians appear to be following singer Frank Ocean’s
lead in skipping the Grammys this year. Despite qualifying for Grammy
consideration, Ocean decided not to submit either of his 2016 albums
saying, “the infrastructure of the awarding system and the nomination
system and screening system is dated.”
It is being reported that Bieber
doesn’t find the Grammys “relevant or representative, especially when it
comes to young singers.”
Drake is missing out because he will be on
tour in the United Kingdom on Grammy night.
As
for Kanye, a source said that he will sit out the awards because “he’s
received 21 Grammys, but when he was head-to-head against a white
singer, he never won.”
This year, that particular situation does not
seem to apply, but in 2016 Kanye also hinted that he might bail on the
Grammys.
He said it was dependent on Frank Ocean getting nominated. “If
his album is nominated, in [any] categories, I’m not showing up to the
Grammys.
As artists we gotta come together to fight the bulls*** that
they’ve been doing us to. All we need is a fair shot.”
