PDP Lists Impeachable Offences By Willie Obiano, Calls Assembly To Do The Needful
The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Anambra State chapter yesterday
raised some impeachable offences the All Progressives Grand Alliance
(APGA) government led by Governor Willie Obiano has committed in office
and called on the state House of Assembly to do the needful.
The call was made by Chief Ken Emeakayi during a special PDP conference at Awka on Sunday.
Emeakayi said: ‘’The governor is aware that he is violating the constitu-tion by not conducting council polls in Anambra. We are only reminding him of the need for him to obey the con-stitution.
The constitution is sacrosanct. The constitution provides for the running of the local government system through elected chairmen and councilors.
“Obiano cannot change it. He is claiming that there is an amended lo-cal government law in Anambra State which empowers him to appoint tran-sition committee, but we are telling him that the constitution is very clear on that. When any law is inconsistent with the constitution, that law, to ex-tent of that inconsistency, shall re-main void.
‘’Again, the Speaker of the House of Representatives has said it that any governor who is operating transition committee or whatever name it is called, outside elected representa-tives, is breaching the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
We are reliably informed that Gov Willie Obiano is planning to appoint members of APGA in Anambra into transition committee. We have written to the appropriate authority because it is totally unacceptable and we shall do everything within the confine of the law to stop him.
On why PDP has failed to regain power despite efforts put in so far, Emeakayi said, ‘’For the period you are talking about, stakeholders of PDP in the state, due to greed and avarice, have continued to mortgage what belongs to our party. Because of this reason, APGA in Anambra has been operating under the franchise of PDP.
The reason APGA has been winning the state is that the party has been playing on the whim of PDP.
