School Shooting And Letter Bomb In France Raise Alerts

PARIS — A man opened fire and injured several people Thursday at a high school in the southern French city of Grasse, according to police sources cited in French media.

A suspect was subsequently arrested, a spokesman for France's National Police confirmed to The Washington Post.

The suspect, whose identity was not disclosed, was of “European” origin, the spokesman said. No immediate link to terrorism was available.

France has remained under a constant “state of emergency” following the November 2015 attacks that killed 130 in an Islamic State-orchestrated assault on Paris.

Also Thursday, a letter bomb exploded in the Paris offices of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Paris, injuring the particular employee who opened it in the hand and face, French police said.

Christine Lagarde, the IMF's director, condemned what she called a “cowardly act of violence against” her staff.
