Senate Begins Investigation Into Attacks On Youth Corps Mmber in Zamfara School
The Senate has expressed serious concern on an attack by suspected
thugs on a Youth Corps member, Mr. Michael Uwakwue who was allegedly
beaten to stupor at the Nasarawa Standard Academy in Zamfara State.
Raising concern through Order 42, Senator Philip Aduda representing Federal Capital Territory, described the development as one too many and a disappointment to the purposes of youth service.
Aduda also revealed that thugs were brought by the parent of the
student who pounced on the Youth Corps, Mr. Michael Uwakwue because he
punished a student of the school.
“Mr. President, Distinguished Colleagues, as I speak, the youth Corps member, Michael Uwakwue and 11 others have been redeployed back to Anambra State as a result of this development,” Aduda explained.
“For punishing a student at Nasarawa Standard Academy, in Zamfara, parent of the student invited thugs who attacked the youth Corps member and I have confirmed from Mrs Victoria Okafor in NYSC office in Abuja. ”
Condemning the attack, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, said any form of attack on Youth Corps members any where would not be tolerated.
He asked the Committee to Wade into the matter and report back to the Senate for further action.
