South East Governors, Ohanaeze, Not In Support Of Biafra
The entire leadership of the South Eastern part of Nigeria condemns Biafra and all calls for secession, reiterate support for a United Nigeria.
All the governors of the Southeastern part of Nigeria debunked rumours of their support for the Agitation of Biafra. The governors alongside leaders and stakeholders openly stated their support for a United Nigeria and a total restructuring of the country.
Chairman of the South East governor’s forum, Umahi Dave, on Sunday, briefed newsmen on the results of an interactive forum with other governors and stakeholders in the region.
He stated that there was a general condemnation of hate speeches and calls for secession by the leaders and unanimous support for a full restructuring of the country on the platform of fairness and equity.
“We are also in full support of the clamour for the restructure of the country and call on the Federal Government to start a dialogue with Nigerians on the modalities for achieving it,” he said.
Umahi, who is the governor of Ebonyi state, added that all the leaders were in support of the 2014 Confab report and he disclosed that the governors’ forum and the south-east national assembly caucus would constitute the official apparatus that would speak on behalf of the south-east region.
Umahi appealed to the Federal Government to take steps that would ensure the safety of the people of the area wherever they lived in the country “just as we have guaranteed the safety of those in our domain”.
Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in an address of welcome charged the people of the area to forge a common front.
In attendance were former Senate Presidents, Ken Nnamani and Adolph Wabara; and the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu,Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Senator Gil Nnaji, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, several members of the House of Representatives, members of the clergy, traditional rulers and the leadership of Ohaneze Ndigbo.
