The president’s return falls a day after a group of protesters stormed the Abuja house in London demanding that the president returns to Nigeria or submit his resignation letter.

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to return to the country on Saturday (today), after spending over 100 days receiving medical attention in London.

In a statement released on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, the President is expected to arrive the country on Saturday and later address the nation in a national broadcast by 7: am on Monday.

"President Buhari is expected to speak to Nigerians in a broadcast by 7 a.m on Monday, August 21, 2017. He thanks, all Nigerians who have prayed ceaselessly for his recovery and well-being since the beginning of the health challenge," the statement reads.

The President left the country on May 7, after handing over power to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who has functioned as Acting President in his absence. His prolonged medical vacation for an undisclosed ailment has led to nationwide protest sparked by #ResumeorResign protesters led by Charles Oputa of OurMumuDonDo Movement and Deji Adeyanju, a leader of Concerned Nigeria. The protest culminated in a night vigil in London that lasted till this morning.

SaharaReporters could not independently confirm if President has departed London as his official jet remains parked at Stansted Airport in London, but our sources said President Buhari's plan to return to Nigeria this weekend led to the cancellation of his wife's trip to Saudi Arabia for hajj which had been planned for Friday.
