The full details was gotten on Tuesday about the gruesome attack by thugs on the Kogi state house of Assembly on Tuesday.

It was gathered that louts numbering over 100 invaded the Kogi State House of Assembly and disrupted a live plenary session.

The thugs, allegedly sponsored by the state Governor, Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, tried to gain entrance to the hallowed chambers but were prevented by the Security operatives attached to the Speaker, Rt Hon Umar Ahmed Imam.

Failing to enter the building through the main entrance, they forced their way through the gallery and used furniture and other dangerous weapons to attack members who immediately scampered away in different directions for their lives.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the criminals operated freely for over an hour, completely undisturbed by the detachment of police officers drafted to the Assembly complex by the State Commissioner of Police, Mr William Inelegwu who left shortly before the thugs stormed the Assembly complex.

The chief whip and member representing Ajaokuta Constituency, Hon Alhassan Abdullahi Bello, his counterpart of Ankpa 1 constituency, Hon Ahmed Ahmed were allegedly responsible for leading the thugs into the hallowed chambers, where a member representing Igalamela/Odulo constituency, Elder Makama Friday Sani was seated.

Investigations revealed that all efforts made by the Deputy speaker to save Makama, who was being beaten by the thugs, proved abortive as they threatened to kill him if he refused to allow them to accomplish their mission; “we must kill him that’s the directives from the above and we must accomplish our mission” the leader of thugs was allegedly quoted as saying.

Hon. Sani Makama, who was able to crawl his way out of the chamber was later aided by some assembly staff to escape through the fence, was conveyed out of the premises in a tricycle machine half-n*de.

Further checks indicate that the thugs were allegedly accompanied by Governor Yahaya Bello ADC, his Security Adviser, Navy Commodore Jerry Omadara, (Rtd)Commandant of MOPOL, Administrators of Okene, Adavi and Bassa Local Government Area.

An inside source stated that Governor Yayaha Bello and his agents in the Assembly allegedly used Hon Friday Sani, as a smoke screen; “you recalled that we invited the state Accountant General, Hon Commissioner of finance and the Acting Head of Service to appear before this Honourable House today to explained and give details account of clear and unclear lists, the numbers of civil servants and pensioners paid.

“This morning Governor Yahaya Bello surrogates in the House made frantic efforts to truncate the public hearing, but the speaker insisted, that’s was why immediately the speaker appealed to members to summarize their submission, the Chief whip invited the thugs,” the source said.

It can be recalled that the state Assembly passed a vote of confidence on the speaker, Rt. Hon Umar Ahmed Imam and this according to some political analysts in the state allegedly didn’t go down well with Governor Yahaya Bello.

Bello summoned the lawmakers last Friday for a meeting in Government House but a majority of them refused to attend.
