J. Martins Resumes Office, Conducts On The Spot Assessment of Azumini Blue River

 

Justice Okey Martins famously known as J. Martins has resumed office as Senior Special Adviser to Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.

J. Martins whose office is tasked with the mandate of reviving the moribund Entertainment and Tourism sector in Abia State resumed office on Monday, July 17, 2023. His first official assignment on Thursday was to conduct an on-the-spot evaluation of the Azumini Blue River in the Ukwa-East local government area of Abia State.

The Azumini Blue River, an unconventional river surrounded by lovely scenery, is reputed to be Nigeria’s cleanest body of water. It starts off blue but changes to green when it rains. Furthermore, if properly utilized, it could become a significant tourist destination.

Located in Ndoki, Ukwa East Local Government Area towards the boundary of Abia and Akwa-Ibom State, Azumini Blue River was commonly known as an ancient slave trade route and elicits nostalgia of some sort among citizens of the state.

Despite entreaties by key stakeholders, the previous administration failed to embark on a major facelift of the Mini-Okigbo which would have automatically driven income and helped boost internally generated revenue in the state.

In line with Governor Alex Otti’s mission to revive and resurrect the state from comatose, the office of the SSA to the Governor on Tourism and Entertainment under the watch of J. Martins says it is committed to the Azumini project and would not rest until it is achieved.

Playing host to the team that visited the community was Eze Prof. Edward Ebere Eule, Ph.D., the Enyenweali the 10th of Azumini-Ndoki Autonomous Community at his Palace.
The elated traditional ruler stated that Azumini Blue River was a choice destination even for foreigners who visited every weekend until the onset of various cases of kidnapping within the community.

Eze Ebere who congratulated Dr. Alex Chioma Otti OFR on his emergence as the Executive Governor of Abia state pleaded with the state government to develop the Azumini Blue River into an international tourist destination and noted that the impact would not be limited to job creation for the youths of Azumini-Ndoki but would also impact positively on the IGR of the state.

In his reaction, J. Martins assured that after his assessment recommendations would be made to the governor to ensure a revitalization of not Azumini River, but other tourist attractions within the community and the state to international standard.

The SSA’s activities for the day climaxed at the office of the State’s Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu who also assured of a symbiotic relationship with the office of the SSA on Tourism to ensure prosperity for all Abians.
