Liverpool interested in signing Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi
Liverpool have set their sights on signing Real Sociedad and Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
The 25-year-old, who has a release clause set at £51 million, is also on the radar of Manchester United and long-term admirers Arsenal.
Zubimendi impressed during Euro 2024, notably contributing to Spain’s 2-1 victory over England in the final after coming on for Rodri at half-time.
At Real Sociedad, where he has played since 2011, Zubimendi helped the team secure a sixth-place finish in LaLiga last season and made significant contributions with four goals in 31 appearances.
The club also advanced to the Champions League’s last 16 before being eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain.
A potential transfer for Zubimendi would mark the first major signing for Liverpool’s new sporting director, Richard Hughes.
Hughes had previously indicated that July would be a quieter month due to international tournaments, with transfer activity expected to escalate in August.
Liverpool, the only Premier League club yet to make a summer signing, is actively seeking a new central midfielder to fill the role vacated by Fabinho’s departure last year.
The club briefly brought in Japan international Wataru Endo from Stuttgart for £16 million last August, but he was seen as a temporary solution.
